After 50 years of musical ministry, Dove Award winners Dave Kyllonen, Duane Nicholson, and Neil Enloe still travel thousands of miles annually just as they did singing as The Couriers from the 1950s into the 1980s. Their ventures take them into scores of churches across North America, including visits to many Assemblies of God congregations.

The trio recently ministered at Red Mountain AG in Mesa, Ariz., and noticed something that “every AG church should do,” according to Duane. “The ushers hand out the bulletin and along with it they pass out the TPE!” he reports.

“So many AG churches we sing in have the TPE off in some corner where no one can see it,” adds Duane.

The Evangel staff appreciates all the pastors who make the publication available to their congregants and take steps to make it highly accessible.

If your church doesn’t receive the Evangel, a special free trial subscription is available. Just call (417) 862-2781, ext. 4107, or e-mail rkopczick@ag.org and mention this article.

Today’s Pentecostal Evangel was among three Assemblies of God publications to receive recognition during the May 7-9 Evangelical Press Association convention in Portland, Ore. The trio of periodicals, which also includes Enrichment journal and WTOnline magazine, won a total of 11 awards for calendar year 2007.

TPE’s work was recognized with six Higher Goals awards, the most it has received in a year. Two entries finished first in their respective categories — General Article: Short and Single Photo/Candid. The article, “Repo Man,” was written by James Meredith and senior associate editor Scott Harrup. Gaylon Wampler shot the winning photo of Shuar children cooling off in a ditch of rainwater in Ecuador.

Evangel staff writer Christina Quick was honored with a third place award in the General Article: Long category with her “10 Things Your Kids May Not Tell You.” “Ecuador’s Soul Searchers” by freelance photographer Gaylon Wampler and Managing Editor Kirk Noonan also received a third place award in the Photo Feature competition.

A fourth place in Original Art was presented to TPE for Gary Locke’s work on the annual Kids’ Edition, while Editor Ken Horn’s “Ten Billion Crosses” placed fifth among the Biblical Exposition works.

Enrichment journal was accorded the Award of Excellence in the Christian Ministries category. It was the fourth time in its history Enrichment captured an Award of Excellence, which represents the highest honor bestowed by EPA.

The journal’s remaining three awards came in the Higher Goals categories of Biblical Exposition (second place), Cartoon (second place), and Cover (fifth place). It was the second consecutive year that Enrichment received a publication-high four awards.

WTOnline magazine, published by the AG Women’s Ministries department, captured an Award of Merit in the Awards of Excellence Online category. The award competition drew more than 1,000 total entries from the EPA membership, which includes approximately 315 publications.
